An instructional method of drawing generation
Our Advance Diploma drawing class got back to basics with an instructional method of drawing generation with Gail Russell.
| Returning the Lady To Her Seat | After a dance is over, the gentleman accompanies the lady back to her chair or other place of origin, usually with easy exclamations of pleasure and gratitude. He does not end a dance with a quick "thanks," and then bound off toward the snack table, leaving her alone in the middle of the floor. We should try not to desert or abandon our ladies. |
This semester we will cut a rug and trip the light fantastic with Dallas Perry.
| Acknowledge | ack | Recognise your partner with an implied "thank you for gracing me with your company." One standard acknowledgement is an "apart, point." A bit more old-fashioned is the bow and curtsey. Nowadays, we are more and more seeing "together, touch" or "together and shape" or "gather her to closed" (which are much the same thing); box finish; and off we dance. |
Sculpture unveiled at Weld Square
THE latest work by artists Sandra Hill and Jenny Dawson were publicly unveiled last weekend at Weld Square as part of a Naidoc Week event.
The event was also commemoration of The Coolbaroo League, which was a social club formed in 1946 by Aboriginal people when they were not permitted to enter the city.
From the 1950s, the League held weekly dances on the outskirts of the restricted zone, across from Weld Square, as a haven of hope for Aboriginal people.
The City of Vincent and Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority commissioned artwork by Hill and Dawson, which commemorates and includes personal stories about the Coolbaroo League.
The volume on the interactive audio of the sculpture seemed a bit low which might be why the area is once again closed off.
My video of Tasha and Rosie at Weld Square
Saw a exhibition on the subject at UWA last year.
